Arcadia High School:
One of Best Schools for Math and Science
For the first time, US News & World Report has created a list of our country's Best Schools for Math and Science.  Of the 208 elite schools selected, Arcadia High School appears in the #94 spot.

Schools were selected based upon their level of math and science participation and success in AP "STEM" courses (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) such as Calculus, Statistics, Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Environmental Science.  Arcadia High School has a large number of students enrolled in one or more of these subjects each year and a vast majority of these students successfully pass the associated examination.

2010 U.S. Census
March 24, 2010
Dear School Families,    (read this letter in Chinese)

This month, households will receive the 2010 United States Census questionnaire.  The U.S. Constitution requires a national census once every 10 years and it is a count of everyone residing in the United States – both citizens and non-citizens.  The Census is a historic event that will help shape our nation’s future for the next 10 years.  With accurate census data, we can create a portrait of our nation’s growing population and determine what’s needed to better provide for everyone.  The census data are used to determine the number of seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives and to allocate more than 400 billion federal dollars to states and local communities.  The Arcadia Board of Education passed Resolution No. 1209 encouraging participation in the 2010 Census.

With only 10 questions, the 2010 Census questionnaire takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.  Households are asked to provide key demographic information that, by law, cannot be shared with anyone.

Arcadia Unified School District is sending home with your student an information sheet which answers many questions about the 2010 Census.  Additional information may be found on the official Census website at http://www.2010census.gov.  Additionally, there is more information to be found at the bottom of this letter..

The 2010 Census questionnaire is short, takes 10 minutes to complete, and is 100 percent confidential.  Watch your mailbox and remember to return your questionnaire promptly.   Completing the 2010 Census form will shape the future for you, your community and the country.  As the motto of the 2010 Census states, “It’s in Our Hands.”

Sincerely,
Joel Shawn, Superintendent
