Arcadia Unified School District’s Board of Education voted unanimously at its February 28 meeting on a resolution that will save Arcadia taxpayers over $40 million. The savings will come by way of refinancing bonds that were obtained through the Measure I, Facilities Bond. Read more here.

This was the 16th time the Apaches have marched in the prestigious Rose Parade. The Arcadia High Band has also marched in two Presidential Inaugural Parades (1957 Dwight Eisenhower, 2005 George W. Bush). The band also performed at the very first Super Bowl in 1967, in the 1981 World Series, the Gator Bowl, Alamo Bowl, was featured in an NFL Super Bowl commercial last year, and has won countless field show competitions. Congrats Apaches!
Hundreds of students throughout the entire Arcadia Unified School District are participating in the global Hour of Code movement where they are taught about computer science and coding. There are even many Kindergarten classes in the Arcadia Unified School District, including Ms. Pinto's at Holly Avenue Elementary School, where students as young as 5 years old are learning to code.
Each of the nearly 10,000 students in the Arcadia Unified School District now has their own Chromebook. All middle school and high school students can even bring their Chromebooks home to use. The 1:1 Student to Technology device program began three years and was fully implemented on the first day of school this year.
Horacio Sanchez, a well-known leader in mental health and resiliency, will be the keynote speaker for our annual Community Forum/Family Engagement Night “Resiliency.” The Community Forum, which will be free of charge, will be held on Thursday, October 6, 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the Arcadia Performing Arts Center. Mr. Sanchez will be discussing resiliency for students, maximizing brain function, helping students deal with stress, and optimal health for student success. Read more here.

We are aware that Los Angeles Unified has closed all schools due to a credible threat specific to LAUSD. We have been in contact with the Arcadia Police Department and with our school resource officer regarding the threat.
Arcadia school Principals have been notified and we will continue to monitor all news and advisories regarding the situation in Los Angeles. Arcadia Unified schools are not impacted by the threat at this time and will remain open for school. We will continue to communicate with Arcadia Police and our community.

Nathan Chou, a senior at Arcadia High School, earns a rare perfect score on his Advanced Placement Calculus Exam. Of the 3,938,100 AP exams taken in 2013, Chou was one of just 11 students in the world that reached perfection on the AP Calculus BC Exam.
