Educational Technology

Instruction BP 6162.7(a)
USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN INSTRUCTION
The Governing Board acknowledges that technology will be a pervasive part of our students' lives. Further, the Board believes that technological tools, when skillfully used, extend students' abilities to think and communicate effectively, empower and engage students in learning, and enhance students' opportunities to use information to solve problems and create new ideas. Therefore, the Governing Board believes that technology as a resource for learning must be readily available to staff and students. The Governing Board expects that all students will have reasonable access to not only the necessary hardware and software, but also to the appropriate instructional applications in their classrooms.
The Board recognizes that trained teachers are needed to make the best use of the district's technology. Teachers and instructional aides shall receive training in using the technologies available to them. All district schools shall have the opportunity to obtain computers, software and other equipment.
The district's educational software shall be carefully selected and evaluated so as to meet the teachers' and students' needs and conform with district policy and regulations. All network software must be approved by the Superintendent or designee. Staff and students are expected to strictly observe copyright laws.
Recognizable student names or pictures may not be published on the internet without written parent permission. Student work may be published or be on-line using first names and last initials.
