Title III Budget

What is the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF): In June of 2013, the Legislature approved Gov. Jerry Brown's Local Control Funding Formula, the most sweeping education funding reform in decades. The LCFF represents a historic shift in how California funds public schools. With a focus on local decision-making, equity, accountability and transparency, it lays the foundation for local education agencies to improve student outcomes and close the achievement gap. The new system has an eight-year implementation plan, with 2013-14 as the transition year.
 

What is the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP): The LCAP is a critical part of the new Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). Each school district must engage parents, educators,

employees and the community to establish these plans. The plans will describe the school district’s overall vision for students, annual goals and specific actions the district will take to achieve the vision and goals. The LCAPs must focus on eight areas identified as state priorities. The plans will also demonstrate how the district’s budget will help achieve the goals, and assess each year how well the strategies in the plan were able to improve outcomes.
 
Parent/Association Representative LCAP Advisory Committee:

Arcadia Unified School District is currently seeking individuals interested in serving on a Parent/Association Representative Advisory Committee, which is being established as a part of the new Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). Meaningful engagement of parents, students, educators and other stakeholders, including those representing students qualifying for free and reduced price meals, English learners, and foster youth, is a state priority and key component of the LCAP development process.  

In December 2013 an initial meeting was held to examine the new LCAP requirements and discuss a process for moving forward. There is a need for parent representation from all school sites as well as the professional organizations representing various AUSD staff.

Role of the Committee: To consult, review, and comment on the district’s Local Control Accountability Plan.

All Advisory Committee meetings are open to the public. Meeting agendas and minutes will be posted on the AUSD district webpage (here) as they become available. Please join the conversation and invite a friend!

Homework for next meeting: Read the following two sections in the "School Accountability Report Card" for your school or your child's school. Read the sections titled "Student Achievement", and "Measures of Progress." The data there lines up with the LCAP priority that is "Section 2: Goals and Progress Indicators" on page 10 in the LCAP Template. Examine these sections with the following lens and questions: 1) What insights or goals should AUSD be considering for improvement? 2) What further questions do you have in regards to the data? Homework for Tuesday 3/4/14 Meeting:

For Tuesday’s meeting please review the four survey charts from the LCAP Community Survey on Parent Involvement, Quality of Student Achievement, Student Participation, and Basic Services. These charts incorporate the results as of Friday at 2:30 p.m. You will find the data for Parent Involvement have the largest number of responses that suggest “needs improvement.”
Because of this input, we will focus our work on Parent Involvement. Here is a link to the raw data collected thus far in the Parent Involvement area. We recognize this is a large document, but we wanted to ensure transparency by providing the raw data. You likely won’t need to read the entire document to get an accurate impression of the data. 
We will get into small groups and write specific goals that will help the district achieve increased parent involvement. Groups will need to be able to describe the goals and how those goals will be measured. Meeting is from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Any questions or comments can be left on the LCAP Discussion Page

No homework for the next meeting on Tuesday 3/18. Staff has been working hard on some preliminary examples of goals and activities for the LCAP template. At the meeting we will be reviewing the template and be asking for input from you as we begin to write the first draft of the AUSD LCAP. We look forward to your thoughts and seeing you on Tuesday!
*March 18 at 6:00 p.m. We are excited to share that a rough draft of the LCAP Goals is near completion. We will be sharing this rough draft Wednesday night (April 2), and will be asking for your reactions, feedback, and suggestions for editing. We look forward to this final meeting and the rich conversations that we always enjoy.
